Lisbon Ferry
Lisbon is located on the bank of the River Tagus (Tejo) and a Lisbon ferry is a good way to reach places like Belém, for example.
The South bank Lisbon ferry stations are: Montijo, Barreiro, Seixal, Cacilhas, Trafaria. Many beach escapes or bike trips start with Lisbon ferry crossing to the southern terminals. Terreiro do Paco, Cais do Sodre and Belém are the North bank Lisbon ferry stations. Many tourists take the ferry to visit Cacilhas, renowned for its fish restaurants, and to enjoy the sunset and the spectacular view of Lisbon from the boat.
Currently there are two companies that operate Lisbon ferry services. The main Lisbon ferry company is Transtejo (Transports Tejo SA) that operate from three Lisbon ferry terminals: Belém, Cais de Sodre and Cais da Alfandega. With a fleet of around 30 ferries, Transtejo has routes to terminals on the south banks. The second Lisbon ferry company is SOFLUSA (Sociedade Fluvial de Transports S.A.). This is the Lisbon ferry company that links the railway stations at Estacao do Sul e Sueste, where trains leave for the south of the country, to Barreiro, 30 minutes away on the south bank.
Lisbon ferry terminals (estações fluviais) are used by Transtejo car ferries (Setubalense, Alentejense), Transtejo passenger ferries (Cacilhense, Campolide, Sintrense, Seixalense), Transtejo fast ferries (Alges, Castelo, Chiado, Bica) and SOFLUSA passenger ferries.
The Lisbon ferry is not only pleasant for tourists, but it also has the advantage of being the quickest type of transport. |
