Lisbon Climate
Located on the Atlantic coast, the capital of Portugal has a mild and temperate Lisbon climate, with some Mediterranean influences. The short winters and long hot summers represent the characteristics of Lisbon climate. With lots of sunny days even during the winter, Lisbon is one of the warmest European capitals.
The Atlantic breezes influence the Lisbon climate, making the summer to be easier to endure, especially in July and August, when the maximum temperatures are close to 30 °C or above it, sometimes reaching 40 degrees centigrade (104 Fahrenheit). In winters the temperatures rarely fall to freezing point, even during December and January, the coldest months.
Because of the proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, drizzly rain makes the media for precipitations to be around 70 cm, the average for all the months of the year. But rain can be a romantic aspect of Lisbon climate if walking on the city's narrow streets, especially with temperatures rarely falling below 5 °C.
The Lisbon climate has the average number of rainy days per year around 100 and the average sunny hours per year about 3300. Although sometimes interrupted by rainy and windy days of autumn and winter, Lisbon climate is still defined by constant sunny days. |
