Excursions from Lisbon
Many Lisbon tourists have a dilemma: to make first excursions from Lisbon or the tour of the city. Few can resist the temptation of making excursions from Lisbon and see the beautiful beaches of Estoril and Cascais, the wonderful ladscapes of Sintra or even the Westernmost point of Europe, Cabo da Roca.
Sintra is one of the wanted excursions from Lisbon because tourists can enjoy discovering the palaces, villas and gardens around Sintra that earned a place as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visitors can see Palácio Nacional de Sintra, once the royal residence that now houses the world’s most important collection of glazed tiles (Mudejar azulejos). Also in Sintra you shouldn't miss the Palácio da Pena, a very well preserved castle with sumptuous decoration and excellent views as it is on top of a high promontory.
Estoril and Cascais are the favorite excursions from Lisbon. The Estoril coast offers enchanting views and tourists can catch a glimpse of the Europe’s largest casinos or of the stylish summer resorts. Estoril has long attracted the wealthy, who built villas in the green hills above the beaches. There are many Lisbon's historic sites and monuments to see and plenty of photo opportunities.
A little further west from Estoril is located Cascais, an enchanting and typical fishing port. This is one of the excursions from Lisbon that attracts many tourists from abroad because of its beaches and watersports facilities. With a humble history of a working fishing, Cascais is today a modern place, famous for its seafood restaurants.
Cabo da Roca is a mandatory destination for the excursions from Lisbon. Cabo da Roca is the westernmost point of Europe, a place that the Portuguese poet Luis de Camões defined as "where the land ends and the sea begins". From here visitors can buy a certificate showing they have been at Europe's westernmost point.
So, for a perfect vacation on the capital of Portugal, excursions from Lisbon are a must. Enjoy!
